Descrizione:Every city guards, in its alleys and folds, an endless web of traces, silent signs
left by man. The human being, immersed in this living fabric, imprints his
presence in places, in people, in glances.
His hands create and transform, while fingerprints tell a unique story of roots
and connections to the world.
But these traces, which define us, also make us visible, exposed. They call to
mind the Panopticon, the prison model devised by English philosopher Jeremy Bentham in 1791: a structure in which every individual can be observed from a
central point, without knowing when and by whom. A system that turns
visibility into control.
Even today, in cities and digital systems, we live within networks that read and
observe us. Identity is intertwined with surveillance.
The work “DIGITAL ROOT” makes all this visible: composed of small
interlocking tiles, resembling cells or pixels, it is a metaphor for the artist&
digital footprint and, more generally, for the human being. Each tile is a
fragment that, together with the others, builds a mosaic: an identity, a
community, a memory.
Just as in the Panopticon, each element is connected, but not entirely free.
Everything is part of a larger structure, perhaps invisible, but present.
“DIGITAL ROOT” brings into dialogue uniqueness and control, freedom and
system. The work prompts us to reflect on how our identity is constructed not
