Biografia

Dominique de Bellefroid is a Belgian painter born in 1966, currently living and working between Brussels and her studio in Provence. From an early age, she developed a taste for art in various forms, including fashion design, drawing, weaving, mosaic, and painting.
After studying fashion design in Florence, Bellefroid pursued three years of fine arts training at the Heatherley School of Art in London, followed by five years of painting and weaving courses at the Académie Constantin Meunier in Brussels.
For the past fifteen years, she has dedicated herself fully to painting, which allows her to channel and express the constant flow of ideas that spring from her mind. Alongside her artistic career, Bellefroid discovered yoga and regularly travelled to India to learn its philosophy, eventually teaching it herself for about ten years. She also trained in naturopathy and coaching. All of these healing practices, closely tied to the human being in its three dimensions and its vibrations, are transposed into her artistic exploration and expression.
Her passion for textiles and weaving infuses her work: she often chooses the raw side of linen canvas, where the fibres reveal, beneath the layers of colour, unexpected patterns, as if the material itself were whispering its own story.
Bellefroid navigates between abstraction and the organic, driven by a vibrant instinct for colour and a generous spontaneity. Her style breaks free from
constraints: she freely explores surfaces and materials, blending the delicacy of oil glazes, the density of oil sticks, and at times the fineness of thread.
A sincere joy emanates from her canvases. In each nuance, each gesture, she lays down what flows through her: a vital force, simple and true, which she hopes to pass on to those who pause, observe, and feel.
