I often have lucid dreams. I started this painting two years ago, during a period of transition, and only recently finished it. It represents my portrait in the form of a dress with curved lines evoking roots. In my dreams, a dress symbolizes a stage in my life. If it is made of beautiful fabric, well-cut, and I feel good in it, it is a very good omen! But sometimes, I see dresses similar to the one in the painting. For example, before my grandmother passed away, I saw her, and she tried to give me her old cotton dress. I politely declined, as I didn’t want to carry its burden. The roots represent my ancestors and the karmic debt I wish to be free of. They are heavy and tangled, the fruit of family tragedies. The white flowers symbolize purity and hope. In a dream, I saw myself running amidst white flowers resembling tangled morning glories. The morning glory is a tenacious plant. In this painting, it’s like a time loop: I am constantly trapped. The blue frame symbolizes a system failure. In my dreams, I sometimes find myself in a parallel world, through a blue-framed mirror. I titled this painting “Hope.” It could transport me to another dimension of reality, and then I would want to introduce myself to the world!
