Lina Zavadskė is a Lithuanian textile artist born in Vilnius in 1976. She graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts, where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Textile Art in 2000 and a Master’s degree in Textile Art in 2003. Since 2005, she has been a member of the Lithuanian Artists’ Association.
Seasonality plays an important role in her creative practice. From late spring through summer, she focuses on natural dyeing, working exclusively with linen fabrics. She collects plants in nature, experiments with natural dyes and creates unique textiles, clothing, accessories and home textiles. Her practice combines sustainability, functionality and artistic expression, with a particular interest in soft, muted and naturally obtained colors.
During autumn and winter, she focuses on painting and embroidery. She works with acrylic and oil paints and combines painting with embroidery using threads and beads, as well as appliqué, knitting and crochet. She is interested in combining different materials and techniques rather than limiting herself to one medium.
In her paintings, reality merges with an imagined abstract world of colors. Her works often explore the idea of a suspended moment in time, where movement and action appear frozen and there is neither past nor future, only a single captured moment.
Her work has been presented in numerous exhibitions and biennials in Lithuania, including the Textile Art Biennials For the Soul and the Body, (Re)Create and Boundary, as well as international textile miniature exhibitions. Her work Morning Star received a diploma for creative interpretation of the theme exhibition Baltic Symbols in Textile.
