Significa lasciare spazio all’intuizione, all’errore, alla meraviglia, alla memoria personale e all’immaginazione.
NAÏF is an invitation to rediscover a free, direct and untamed way of seeing.
The term naïf traditionally refers to a spontaneous, instinctive and seemingly simple form of expression, often distant from academic conventions. In this open call, however, NAÏF does not seek to define a specific style or confine itself to a particular artistic movement. Rather, it becomes an attitude.
To be naïf means allowing ourselves to look at things without already knowing how they should be represented. It means making room for intuition, mistakes, wonder, personal memory and imagination. It means creating without necessarily feeling the need to conform to a recognizable language or a predefined category.
In a contemporary landscape filled with constant images, references, trends and increasingly fast-moving aesthetic codes, NAÏF looks for what preserves a sense of authenticity: an imperfect mark, a private vision, an unexpected form, an image capable of existing before it is even explained.
We are not necessarily looking for works that are “naïve” in the traditional sense of the word. We are looking for works that preserve a form of freedom. Works that can step away, even if only for a moment, from the need to be perfect, correct or easily classified.
NAÏF is a space for what comes before the rule.
