Biografia

Helka Ivanyi
Bio artista: Helka is a Vienna-based Hungarian artist. She received her artistic training mainly in textile art at Művészeti Szakgimnázium Pécs, but during the pandemic outbreak she was keen to explore a newer medium and technique, and she turned to painting.

Rather than abstract or non-figurative forms of painting, she was more attracted towards creating concrete, narrative images in a somewhat surrealistic way.

Even as a child, she doodled a lot of crowd scenes, and later, at school, she began to draw more absurd and grotesque figures, which thanks to the boredom of school became plentiful in her notebooks. This gave rise to the idea of creating canvas paintings in the same way, not with ballpoint pens but with acrylics, giving them a colourful touch.

Thanks to the success of this theme, she has since continued to create surrealistic paintings full of life. These scenes usually deal with political themes or reinterpret personal problems and experiences. Her artistic goal is to open the minds of viewers to understanding the hidden, surreal, dreamlike reality they live in every day.

Helka has participated in several group exhibitions internationally, had solo exhibits in Hungary and Austria, designed her own collection of clothes with an artist-focused fashion brand, and also engages in environmental projects, such as her “U R WHAT U WASTE” group exhibit funded by Caritas.
