Biografia

Sophie Chapron, born in 1968 in Le Mans, lives and works in the South of France.
Her work explores emotion, the unusual, and aesthetics through hyperrealistic drawings in graphite and color.
Drawn to creative expression since childhood, it was during the 2020 lockdown that her passion for realistic portraiture truly emerged. She began drawing expressive faces from photographs, as a counterpoint to the masked faces of that period.

After a scientific career in the field of wheat and bread, which took her around the world, she decided in 2021 to make a radical life change and settle in the mountains near Montpellier.
Alongside her professional retraining as a motion designer, her drawing practice has expanded and embraced color.

Sophie has exhibited in various venues, always seeking meaningful and enriching exchanges that deeply inspire her.
Since 2025, Sophie Chapron has devoted herself fully to her artistic practice.

Sophie Chapron is fascinated by that moment when a drawing shifts into reality—the perception of volume, texture—when a fleeting doubt arises: is it a drawing or a photograph? She seeks to capture the depth of a gaze, the texture of fabric, hair, or skin.

Her work is centered on portraits of women. For her, the face becomes a space of expression where identity, story, and emotion intertwine.

She works from photographs, and initially her choice of photographers reflected the emotions or the unusual qualities of a face.
Since then, the artist has created her own photographic compositions, which serve as the foundation of her artistic work. This approach allows her freedom in scenography, lighting, and textures. She then draws these staged scenes, combining black graphite pencils with colored pencils or pastels.
