Biografia
Alex Corkish is an artist, illustrator, painter, and printmaker.
Driven by a passion for drawing and painting, she studied applied arts and fine arts in Marseille. She then worked in the performing arts industry, primarily as a communications manager, far removed from pencils and paintbrushes.
Seeking to reconnect with hands-on craft, she took a printmaking workshop in 2022, rediscovering the tactile gesture and feeling of artistic creation. This sparked her decision to launch her own studio, Oddies attellu, in Corsica, which opened in June 2025.
Through the traditional art of etching and dry point Alex Corkish taps into collective memory. She bridges this shared culture with individual recollection by creating portraits of plant life. A medlar tree at the heart of a village or an arbutus along a trail holds the memories of generations who gathered their fruit or rested in their shade, just as we do today. To her, plants are not a passive green background, but distinct individuals.
In her painterly work, she focuses on capturing energy and the spontaneous impulse of the gesture, blending media such as acrylic, pencil, soft pastel, and watercolor. Rather than focusing on intricate detail, she aims to convey the raw emotional force of an image. Moving beyond pure representation, she creates subjects in vivid colors that sometimes submerge form altogether.
Whether as a botanical study or a free interpretation of shape, drawing is an extension of her thought process and the foundation of all her work. Everything is a subject for drawing.
Since 2025, Alex Corkish has taken part in several exhibitions: Festival Itinérances (Lumio), Les Journées de l’estampe (Île-Rousse & Bastia), Morsigliarte (Morsiglia) and Japan Awagami International Miniature Print Exhibition 2025. She has contributed to the screen-printed project Drozo poche #0, an art book published by Collectif Pi2k2 (March 2026).
