Emilia Rubio is a multidisciplinary artist.
Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Emilia worked for fourteen years as a contemporary dancer with the Dance Company of the Teatro Municipal San Martín. She later moved to Auckland, New Zealand, where she performed and taught with Touch Compass Dance Company. In both countries, Emilia participated in numerous artistic projects, collaborating with renowned national and international choreographers.
Among her distinctions are the Clarín Award for Best Dancer of the Year in Argentina (2001) and the award for Best Dancer at the Tempo Dance Festival in Auckland (2006).
Alongside her dance career, Emilia developed interest in the visual arts, studied pottery, a practice that would later become integrated into both her therapeutic work and her current artistic research as a ceramist.
Emilia holds a postgraduate diploma in Dance Movement Therapy (Brecha, Argentina, 2016). She also completed postgraduate studies in Expressive Arts Therapy (TAE, Peru, 2017) and received the Certificate of Advanced Studies in Research, Leadership and Training in Expressive Arts Therapy, Education and Consulting from The European Graduate School, Division of Arts, Health and Society (Switzerland, 2021).
Emilia has designed and facilitated programs and workshops at Māpura Studios and Mason Clinic (Mental Health Services) in Auckland, New Zealand. Through an inclusive and neurodiverse approach, she invites participants to engage in intermodal artistic expression.
Her experience of living in Argentina, New Zealand and Spain informs an artistic practice centered on the relationship between body, territory and materiality. Through ceramics, sculpture and painting, Emilia investigates processes of transformation, memory and belonging inspired by the natural world.
Emilia currently lives in Barcelona, where she develops her artistic project Tierras Generosas (Generous Lands), including the collections Te Pō (The Night Sky) and Water and Silence.
