Leoni von Ristok is a contemporary visual artist and photographer based in Groningen, the Netherlands. Born and raised in Berlin, Germany, she moved to the Netherlands to study Biomedical Sciences and Science Journalism. She recently completed her studies in Conceptual Photography at the Fotoacademie Amsterdam.

Her work is driven by an intangible sense of uprootedness and a contradictory longing for peace, home, connection and intimacy, while simultaneously seeking freedom, novelty and stimulation. Navigating the tension between rootedness and restlessness, her practice revolves around themes of belonging, identity, transformation and displacement.

Combining alternative photographic processes with portraiture, documentary photography and archival imagery, she creates poetic visual narratives that inhabit the space between memory and reality. Through experimentation with photographic materiality and process, her work explores how personal histories, emotions and places are continuously shaped and reshaped.
