Biografia

Born in 1973, Maryll S lives and works in Marseille. Her double background in science and arts has led her to question the transformation of matter. She has developped a multidisciplinary approach—sculpture, stained glass, illustration, linocut, plant-based papers, natural dyes and inks—and is currently exploring camera-less photography.
The origin of Maryll S’s current work lies in a megafire which destroyed a vast area of mediterranan vegetation and around a hundred of houses in Marseille in July 2025, but miraculously didn’t reach her own house. She uses the fire remnants -ashes, pine needles scattered by the wind-as a moving, fluid, and free language to create her cyanotypes. The ashes do not merely say what has disappeared. From them bursts a buried energy. From them emerge matter, memory, and landscape. Abstraction, evocation… In these images appear specters, waves, shifting territories, or constellations: from the dust of ashes to the vastness of the universe.
Maryll S.’s work explores transmutation: what disappears is transformed, traces become a presence. She intents to reveal the movement of the world, this “greater than ourselves” in which everything goes on living.
