Biografia

Justyna (TinaMichalowska is a Polish-born artist and textile designer currently based in Düsseldorf, Germany, following two decades of practice in London. An alumna of the Royal College of Art and the University of the Arts London, her distinctive practice seamlessly bridges the worlds of fine art, textile materials, and alternative photographic processes.

Michalowska’s work is a celebration of the natural world and the delicate tension between meticulous technical control and organic spontaneity. Her creative process embraces serendipity; by manipulating light, chemistry, and fluid mixed-media layers, she transforms fleeting botanical impressions into atmospheric, painterly dreamscapes. Her current work pushes the traditional boundaries of the 19th-century cyanotype process, utilizing innovative tonal washes and exposure techniques to capture the ghost-like “trace” of wild flora.

Transitioning from a highly successful commercial design career—which included creating textiles for notable global fashion brands such as Eudon Choi, Jigsaw, and Anthropologie—Michalowska now focuses on a freer, purely artistic pursuit. Free from commercial constraints, her art functions as a visual meditation on memory, presence, and the changing rhythms of nature. She invites viewers to immerse themselves in a world of rich, layered textures where the boundary between nature and artifice softly dissolves.
