At that time, I made Japanese food every day.

I wanted to serve dishes that were as similar in size and shape as possible,
each one beautiful and well-formed.
We wanted to serve them quickly and efficiently every day.
We simply kept making them, with care and focus.

One day, I felt as though I was dressing them in business suits.
It reminded me of taking identification photos for job applications in Japan.

The same hairstyle.
The same clothes.
Similar expressions.

The more photographs I took, the harder it became to see the differences.

The proscenium is the frame in a theater that separates the stage from the audience.
— a boundary between fiction and reality.

In the world, there are people who are drawn to fiction and cannot always help but create something.
There are others who may feel something but never act on it,
and others who never experience that kind of inspiration at all.

This gap is very hard to bridge,
However, it may even be necessary in a capitalist society.

So rather than seeing it as pain,
I want to hold it with quiet compassion.

The viewfinder is my proscenium.
As long as I remain on this side of the frame,
I can simply wish for everything within it to be well.
