Shaman apprentices from Ulaanbaatar gather in the steppe to learn the practices, rituals and forms of attention required to become shamans. The movement here is an inversion of the more familiar story of tradition migrating toward the city: these are not shamans adapting to urban life, but urban citizens moving outward to learn a spiritual role. Connection with the divine is not only inherited or received, but also taught, practiced and gradually embodied.
