Born in Istanbul in 1981, I graduated from the American Collegiate Institute of İzmir in 1999 and went on to complete an undergraduate degree in Sociology at Middle East Technical University (METU). I later earned master’s degrees in Visual and Media Arts from Emerson College and in Modernism from the University of Sussex. Now based in Istanbul, I divide my time between working as a digital product designer in the technology sector and maintaining an independent practice as a visual artist drawing inspiration from nature, psychology, mythology, and dance.

Watercolor lets me step fully away from the digital rhythms of my daily routine and return to the tangible world of texture and color. I believe that improvised, process-driven creation allows us to reconnect with a lifelong repertoire of images we perceive and absorb subconsciously, offering a kind of serendipity that a highly structured world rarely allows.

I begin each piece on a spontaneous path. As the work develops, I find myself solving an aesthetic problem: colors and forms flow and dictate their own direction, while they also block and negotiate one another’s paths in the process of becoming. The resulting images are dynamic and organic, and I thing they instinctively relate to the traces of the natural world that remain in my mind, and that I may inherit simply by being part of it.

Movement and growth, the qualities I try to capture in my work sit at the core of all living things and allow us to exist together in a multicolored, polyphonic, multi-potential world. Fearing the loss of these possibilities for coexistence, I try to hold on to them through my paintings.
