Bradley Long (b. 1965, England) is a contemporary drawing artist and printmaker based in Oslo, Norway. His immersive monochrome drawings traverse macro and micro terrains, where the horizon becomes an evolving plane and subterranean and surface worlds coexist.

Working with graphite and charcoal—materials drawn from the earth—Long embraces drawing as an extension of the natural processes he explores. Carrying their own geological histories, these raw materials become active participants in the formation of each image. Long creates imagined landscapes where geological, biological and cosmic references intersect. Organic forms emerge, unfold, and transform, suggesting the unseen forces that shape the living world and revealing nature as a continual process of becoming. Rather than depicting identifiable botanical subjects, his work explores the shifting boundaries between the observed and the imagined, evoking patterns of germination, rooting, cellular growth, branching, flowering, fruiting, erosion, and ecological renewal. Through mark-making, erasure, and layering, each drawing evolves through an interplay between intuition and intention, where artistic control is continually negotiated with the unpredictability of materials and the drawing process.

Rooted in the belief that “we do not simply inhabit nature — we are nature,” his drawings become contemplative spaces that reveal underlying structures and invite viewers to reflect on their place in the world, fostering a sense of wonder, mystery, and belonging.

Long holds a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from the University for the Creative Arts, Farnham. Recent projects include a printmaking residency and solo exhibition at Nordstrand Kulturarena, and the site-responsive installation Life Force: In Search of Meaning at Hauketo-Prinsdal Church in Oslo. His work is held in private collections, and he is developing Beginnings. In December, he begins aa six-month printmaking residency at Norske Grafikeres Verksted.
