Diane Stackwick is an American artist currently living in Nice, France, whose work explores the space between the visible and unseen through an unusual process involving candle flame, carbon, intuition, and spiritual intention.

She was introduced to the technique in 2011 at a Spiritualist workshop in Phoenix, Arizona. Before beginning, a simple intention is set to connect with Spirit. A blank Bristol card is then moved continuously around the edge of a candle flame, allowing carbon to accumulate spontaneously across its surface. Stackwick does not draw, paint, or consciously attempt to create the figures that emerge.

Over the past fifteen years, she has produced approximately 75–100 of these original works, which she calls Spirit Images. Within the carbon patterns, faces, eyes, human forms, animals, and sometimes multiple overlapping figures appear. The results are unpredictable; some forms are immediately visible while others seem to reveal themselves gradually.

For many years, Stackwick created the works privately as part of her spiritual and intuitive practice. In 2026, she began presenting the collection publicly under the title **Through the Veil**. She is currently finalizing a website to present her images to the world.

Stackwick experiences the images as encounters with something beyond conscious intention, while leaving their ultimate meaning open to the viewer.

Through *Through the Veil*, she invites viewers to enter that uncertainty and consider a simple question: **What do you see?**
