“7TH HOUSE”

This installation explores how my grandmother’s lost carpet compresses concepts and symbols, traveling through time and new media to create a new interpretation of memory. The central object is a sieve, upon which the carpet is reconstructed through the lens of women’s collective memory—passed down by my mother, my aunts, and myself—incorporating subtle traces of my childhood games like Mario and Tetris.

The title carries a layered meaning: it refers to the astrological 7th House and to the 7 physical homes through which this memory traveled and transformed. The original carpet was gifted to my grandmother by her mother, moved with her to her new home upon marriage, and survived the devastating earthquake to find a place in the newly built house. That memory was then passed down to me, traveling through four more homes I inhabited before finally stabilizing as an artwork.
