Biografia
Renata Machýčková graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where she studied in the painting studio of Vladimír Skrepl and Jiří Kovanda. She also completed study periods at the studio of Václav Stratil at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Brno University of Technology (FaVU BUT) and at Middlesex University in London.
Renata Machýčková is a Czech visual artist whose practice moves between photography and contemporary aesthetic research. In her studio practice, she primarily develops female portraits conceived as emotional fragments suspended between reality, memory, and cinematic fiction. Her work focuses on creating intimate and ambiguous atmospheres in which vulnerability, melancholy, and aesthetics become part of a narrative open to the viewer’s interpretation.
Her research is often drawn to a feminine archetype characterised by an apathetic, distant, almost absent gaze. Behind this gaze, a profound trauma might be concealed—or perhaps nothing more than an illusion, a subtle theatrical construction.
Her work exists on an ambiguous boundary where it is never entirely clear what is actually happening within the image. The viewer is thus immersed in a suspended, timeless dimension, becoming part of a silent and indefinable suggestion.
