Two women lie together in a painting by Toulouse-Lautrec. The scene is intimate, but it was always made for someone outside it. Here that someone arrives: a young man from a contemporary photograph, staring. His gaze is an illustration of a male gaze. The women never look back. The collage leaves us looking at him looking at them, and implicates us in the chain.
