Klára Némethy (*1966, Hungary) is a Berlin-based artist and curator whose practice
explores the relationship between humans and nature. Drawing on botanical forms,
plant structures and natural processes, she has developed a visual language in which
nature becomes both subject and metaphor. Borrowing patterns of growth, decay,
resilience and regeneration, her work reveals parallels between ecological and social
systems, inviting new ways of seeing the interconnectedness of all living beings.
Working across painting, drawing, watercolour and installation, Némethy explores the
fragile symbiosis between people, cities and the natural world. Her artistic process is a
continual “zoom in, zoom out” – shifting between close observation and distance to
uncover hidden relationships. Through abstraction, layered forms and luminous colour,
she transforms botanical structures into symbols of societal change, human
vulnerability and transformation.
A defining chapter of her practice was the year-long project Shifting Seasons (2017–
2018) in the Botanical Garden Berlin. Using the garden as both laboratory and studio,
she observed plants and flowers through the changing seasons, translating their life
cycles into paintings, drawings and a publication that examine botanical
transformation as a mirror of human existence.
Born in Hungary, Némethy studied International Marketing and Linguistics before
completing a Certificate in Curating at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK). Since
2016, she has developed curatorial projects that bring contemporary art into public
landscapes and unconventional spaces, fostering dialogue between art, ecology and
community.
