Biografia

Mike Guillen (Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico) is a visual artist who graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Plastic Arts from the Faculty of Arts of the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC). Her artistic research is developed mainly through watercolor, exploring the relationship between the body, memory and emotional landscape. His practice is based on a constant question: in what way do experiences transform the body and how can they become visible through painting?
From this concern, he has built a research that understands the body as a log where each experience leaves a mark, and the skin as a map on which memory, emotions and time continue to be written. From this perspective, his works represent bodies that transform, expand and dialogue with organic elements that function as metaphors of emotional processes, turning each piece into a territory where identity remains in constant construction.
Currently, his research has evolved towards the study of the body as cartography, understanding anatomy as a sensitive territory where memory, identity and emotions converge. More than representing the human figure from an anatomical perspective, it constructs emotional landscapes where branches, leaves, roots, feathers and organic forms are integrated into the body to reveal what remains invisible: the traces of affection, loss, resilience and transformation.
His work has been presented in individual and group exhibitions in Mexico, the United States and France, in addition to being part of international contemporary art publications and projects. At the same time, he has collaborated on museography and exhibition management projects, strengthening his interest in the exhibition space as an extension of artistic discourse.
