The Blue Glasses is an audiovisual installation based on a childhood memory.
At ten years old, the artist discovers a pair of blue-lensed glasses in the darkness of a garage. When she puts them on, the familiar world appears transformed. For a time, the glasses make life feel different — bigger. Eventually, as childhood objects often do, they disappear.
Twenty years later, while cycling along a familiar river, she unexpectedly experiences the same transformation without them.
The installation combines a short film with spoken narration and a pair of blue-lensed glasses that visitors are invited to try on. The film draws on images of ordinary moments — sunlight on water, trees, sky, reflections and shifting light — allowing the visual language of the work to emerge from the same attentive way of seeing described in the story.
At the end of the narration, the gesture can pass from artist to viewer: the visitor can put on the glasses and look at the exhibition space through them.
Rather than offering a fixed interpretation, The Blue Glasses explores how a shift in perception can make the familiar appear strange, vivid and unexpectedly expansive.
