Death Becomes Her is a self-portrait exploring the archetype of the Death card in the tarot—not as a symbol of physical death, but of transformation, surrender and rebirth.
In the image, I hold a mask painted with my own skeletal face, drawing inspiration from the Mexican tradition of the Day of the Dead.
The mask represents the gradual stripping away of identity, expectation and illusion, revealing the essence that remains when all external layers have fallen away.
The Death card reminds us that every ending carries the seed of a beginning.
Although transitions can be uncomfortable and often ask us to grieve what we leave behind, they also open a portal to new possibilities.
It is through accepting change, rather than resisting it, that we create space for renewal and growth.
This work was created during a pivotal period in my own life. In 2017, I stood at the threshold of profound personal and professional transformation.
Looking back, what once felt like an ending became an initiation—a passage into a new chapter that invited me to step more fully into who I was becoming.
Through Death Becomes Her, I invite viewers to consider the endings in their own lives, not as conclusions, but as sacred thresholds where something new quietly begins.
