Kintsugi
Tecnica: Embossing on paper, 18-karat Citron Gold
Anno: 2024
Dimensioni: 21 x 30 cm
This work explores identity as something shaped not only by becoming, but also by rupture, experience, and acceptance. A circle of embossed fragments suggests a sense of wholeness, while a fine line of real gold runs through its center like a seam or trace.
The gold refers to the Japanese art of Kintsugi, in which broken ceramics are repaired with gold rather than having their fractures concealed. Here, the line becomes a metaphor for lived experience: what once appeared as a separation becomes part of the work’s continuity and meaning.
The gold does not erase the break; it makes it visible. It transforms rupture into a sign of growth and acknowledges imperfection as an essential part of the whole. Identity, like the work itself, is shaped by the traces we carry—and by the connections that become visible through what has been broken.
