The Right to a Gaze
Tecnica: Mixed media (Pastel on skin-toned paper torn black cardboard)
Anno: 2026
Dimensione: 50 x 60 cm
Descrizione: A woman’s gaze through the “information gaps” of a world torn apart by conflict.
In a reality fractured by global crises, cataclysms, and digital isolation, the act of waiting ceases to be a passive background. It transforms into a form of resistance. The artwork presents three pairs of eyes belonging to women of different races, looking at the viewer through holes “torn” into black matter. This serves as a metaphor for our limited access to the truth and the fragmentation of our perception through these “informational slits.”
While global upheavals are often associated with masculine action, the woman takes on a more arduous role — the role of the Witness. Her gaze is a bridge between a shattered “yesterday” and an unknown “tomorrow.”
It is a metaphor for a living presence during the “darkest hour,” a poignant reminder that as long as a heart beats and a gaze endures — the dawn remains possible.
