Biografia

Selma Kozak is an academic, graphic designer, and multidisciplinary artist. She graduated from the Department of Graphic Design at Kütahya Dumlupınar University, Faculty of Fine Arts, in 2011. Between 2015 and 2016, she worked as a Visiting Researcher at the Graphic Design and Visual Communication Design Department of Accademia di Belle Arti Macerata in Italy. In 2022, she completed her PhD at Dokuz Eylül University Institute of Fine Arts with her dissertation titled “Environmental Graphic Design and Public Installation in the Context of 21st Century Postmodernism.” Between 2019 and 2020, she continued her doctoral
research as a Visiting Researcher at Yale University, Yale School of Art, Graphic Design (MFA) Department in the United States, under the supervision of Professor Sheila Levrant de Bretteville. As part of her dissertation project, her public installation titled “Things Inside Me/ Gaslighting” (2019) was exhibited in New Haven, Connecticut, and later presented for a second time at Long Wharf Theatre upon the invitation of Nasty Women Connecticut. In 2020, her video installation “Speaking of The Oceans” was exhibited in the art/science exhibition “Dear 2050: Oceans On The Rise” in Switzerland. In 2022, the work was exhibited again in the guest exhibition held at Kunst(Zeug)Haus Rapperswil Art Museum, one of Switzerland’s significant art institutions. She has held solo exhibitions in Italy and Poland and participated in numerous group exhibitions in the United States, Switzerland, Poland, Italy, Spain, and Turkey. Her artistic practice focuses on installation art, typography, activist art, text-based art, and environmental graphic design. Selma Kozak is currently an Assistant Professor at Kütahya Dumlupınar University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Visual Communication Design in Turkey.
