Biografia

Hannaneh Barikani is an Iranian artist whose work explores the intersection of Persian visual culture, mythology, spirituality, and symbolic traditions. Rooted in the visual language of Persian miniature painting, her practice is shaped by a lifelong fascination with archetypes, comparative religion, esoteric philosophies, and the symbolic structures that connect cultures across time.
Although she studied Computer Engineering, she pursued painting outside the academic system through private ateliers and independent courses taught by university professors. At the same time, she continued her independent research into symbolic and esoteric traditions.
Long before she became familiar with Tarot, she experienced a series of vivid dreams. When she later encountered Tarot, she was struck by how closely the symbolic atmosphere of many of those dreams echoed particular Tarot cards. This experience became the starting point for an in-depth exploration of Tarot—not as a tool of divination, but as a symbolic language.
Drawing upon years of artistic and symbolic research, she reinterprets Tarot through the visual language of Persian miniature painting.
The works presented here are part of an ongoing project to reinterpret Tarot through Persian miniature painting.
