Biografia
Yuka is a photographer whose artistic practice explores the implicit boundary between self and society in everyday life through photography. Her expression is deeply rooted in her background in theatre and acting.
Through the process of character creation, she has deeply explored the personalities and backgrounds of various people, physically embodying them and experiencing the delicate changes that emerge within her mind and body. She has also cultivated a heightened sensitivity—the ability to make her body believe in something that does not exist, an attunement to the atmosphere of a space, and an acute awareness of the emotions of those around her. These experiences continue to shape how she constructs her images and responds to the decisive moments she captures.
She views digital RAW data as the "Cryosleep of Memory," the act of selecting photographs as a process of dialoguing with her past self and scooping up fragments captured unconsciously. By choosing photography as the medium capable of recording reality with the utmost precision, she expresses the distance between her own perception and society.
Created in 2022 and serving as the starting point for this current work, MOMENT unfolds from the perspective of an actor. It focuses on the inner tension that arises just before stepping onto the stage, the overwhelming presence of the performer, and the quiet pressure hiding behind them.
For Yuka, photography is not just a medium of documentation. It is a vital means to embrace the past, navigate society, and reconnect gently with the world through her own personal code and methods.
