Descrizione: I used an old black-and-white photo as a reference; it shows my grandmother and my mother in the early 1940s. Since my grandfather, a Frenchman, was at war and couldn’t come home for five years, they had their picture taken at a studio and sent it to him. Using carefully selected fabrics, I recreated the image in color through painting and embroidery. I was inspired by the dresses, hairstyles, and the staging in the photo studio, as well as my mother’s porcelain-doll face. The care and craftsmanship should be felt and seen in the image.
