Like the pause between inhalation and exhalation, or the silence between musical notes, the work portrays a moment of communion between the Higher Soul and the incarnated soul. A serpent replaces the rope, symbolizing both humanity’s descent into the material world and its spiritual ascent. At the same time, the blue arch—a traditional motif in Persian miniature painting—represents the celestial realm. The peacocks symbolize the Higher Soul; the hands below reach upward in longing for union, while the hands above descend in response, extending a helping hand. -

Anno: 2025 Dimensione: 26.2cmx20.2cm Descrizione: A reinterpretation of The Tower through the visual language of Persian miniature painting. Remaining faithful to the card’s traditional symbolism, the work draws on a recurring motif found in Mesopotamian mythology and Iranian epic literature, most notably the Shahnameh: the downfall of the king and queen—symbols of the animus and anima—whose pride drives them to seek realms for which they are not yet spiritually prepared. The zigzagging flames descending from the sun and the shattered crown of the tower symbolize the descent of divine energy, revealing the limits of the unprepared seeker. This theme is echoed in the outer frame through the imagery of serpents and ladders, drawn from the Indian and Iranian game of Snakes and Ladders. The seeker ascends the ladder, but whenever the necessary inner transformation has not yet taken place, the serpent casts them back down. Yet this collapse is not an end but a necessary stage of transformation, where destruction becomes the beginning of renewal. -

Remaining faithful to the card’s traditional symbolism, the work reinterprets many of its familiar motifs, reflecting their shared presence in the Sphinx, the vision of the Prophet Ezekiel, and later Iranian-Islamic traditions. Its corresponding symbolic attribute accompanies each of the four living creatures. At the center, the dancing figure is enclosed within an oval form and may also be read as an allusion to Shiva’s cosmic dance, through which creation is continuously sustained. The flowing scarf, gradually shifting from red below to blue above, symbolizes the movement of yin and yang through the body’s energetic channels. The outer frame, inspired by Persian miniature painting, emphasizes the beauty and sacredness of crossing the threshold into the world.
