It highlights how we as a society freely give up our freedom and privacy and hand it over to corporations and governments in order to feel protected.

In an age saturated by self-broadcasting and voyeuristic impulses amplified by social media, this work invites a pause—a moment to reconsider how these dynamics distract us from the tangible reality in which our lives unfold. The linguistic games once theorized by Lyotard have evolved into virtual bubbles, isolating individuals from the essential rhythms of daily existence and human connection. Within these bubbles, the intimate gesture, the influencer’s latest outfit, the devastation of war, and environmental collapse are flattened into a single plane of perceived relevance. "Step Aside from Yourself" is a call to shift our gaze away from the reflected self—no longer just a psychoanalytic construct, but now refracted through likes, comments, and followers. What lies behind this mirror may be unsettling: conflict, poverty, despair, ecological ruin. Yet it may also reveal moments of grace—direct human contact, dialogue, children at play, a walk through the forest. The images, printed on semi-transparent polyester, invite the viewer not only to leaf through them physically, but to navigate the subtle interconnections between seemingly distant environments and experiences.

By exaggerating a domestic visual code (the fridge magnet), the piece shifts the intimate toward installation, revealing an economy of imminent collapse. Its formal economy places pressure on the boundaries between support and symbol, affection and containment, visibility and subjective precarity.

This paper—normally overlooked—is not meant to be seen. It is a printed simulacrum, a promise of image, a placeholder with no symbolic value. By flipping it and reactivating it through a manual painterly gesture, the simulacrum is reversed: what was once an anonymous background becomes an active surface. The image does not change, but its status does. The visual elements remain identical—logos, dimensions, generic compositions—but their passage through the hand, through slowness and the singularity of the gesture, radically transforms their reading. The work thus interrogates regimes of visibility in contemporary visual culture: the border between function and fiction, between reproduction and original, between industrial surface and meaning-laden image. By reactivating a banal object through painting, this piece challenges the supposed neutrality of industrial form and the performative value of the artistic gesture. It is a reflection on the standardization of formats, the economy of signs, and the possibility of producing an image outside the spectacle system—by activating the flaw, the reverse, the invisible.
